Counselor's Corner

After teaching first grade at Swain School for eleven years, I became Swain's first full time School Counselor. My educational background includes a BA in Psychology and Certification in Elementary Education from Cedar Crest College. I earned a Master of Education from Kutztown University, as well as a Master of Science in Counseling Psychology and Human Resources with a Specialization in Child and Adolescent Therapy from Chestnut Hill College.

As School Counselor, one of my biggest jobs is classroom guidance. I visit every class, from PS3 through fifth grade, for six sessions in the Fall and six sessions in the Spring. The students learn conflict resolution skills and anger management skills. This also is a time when I get to know each student. I work with the middle school students on goal setting activities at the beginning of the school year.

Other responsibilities of a School Counselor include individual student counseling, acting as a resource for teachers, administration, and parents, and being a liaison for the Carbon Lehigh Intermediate Unit.

The best part of being a School Counselor is getting to know every child at Swain School!
